Black Friday 2026 UK: Dates, Deals and the Real Bargains
Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday 27 November, with Cyber Monday following on Monday 30 November. But the UK's biggest shopping event stopped being a single day years ago — in 2026 it's a month-long season that starts with Singles' Day on 11 November, builds through early-access sales from mid-November, peaks across the Black Friday weekend, and closes on Cyber Monday. Some retailers started as early as 30 October last year.
This guide covers the full 2026 timeline, what the big retailers are expected to do, how to tell a genuine bargain from an inflated "was" price, whether voucher codes still work during the sales, and your returns rights when you buy. Every store page linked here carries live, dated offers checked at VouchersX.
When Is Black Friday 2026? The Key Dates
Black Friday is always the day after American Thanksgiving — the fourth Thursday of November — which puts it on Friday 27 November in 2026. The UK adopted the same date rather than choosing its own, so British sales run in step with the US. Cyber Monday, the online-focused sequel, lands three days later on Monday 30 November.
Here is the full shopping calendar for November 2026:
| Date | Event | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Wed 11 November | Singles' Day | Marketplace deals — the traditional opener (AliExpress and others) |
| Early–mid November | Early access | First retailer sales; loyalty-member previews |
| Mon 23 November | Black Week begins | Most major UK retailers open their full sales |
| Fri 27 November | Black Friday | The main event — deepest discounts, busiest day |
| Sat 28 – Sun 29 November | Black Weekend | Sales continue; new offers drop |
| Mon 30 November | Cyber Monday | Online-focused deals; most sales close at midnight |
| Sat 5 December | Small Business Saturday UK | Independent and local shops |
| Late December – January | January sales | The other big clearance window |

What Black Friday Actually Is — and Why It Lasts a Month Now
Black Friday began in the US as the day after Thanksgiving, when retailers' ledgers supposedly moved from "in the red" to "in the black". British retailers imported it in the 2010s and the UK now treats it as the biggest shopping event of the year — bigger than the Boxing Day sales in online terms.
It is not a UK bank holiday: shops trade normal hours and the online sales run on the same day as the US. What has changed is the length. Amazon UK has run an 11–12 day event opening the week before Black Friday and ending on Cyber Monday every year since 2023, and most major retailers now run "Black Week" from Monday 23 November. Deal watchers have taken to calling the whole thing "Black November" — and last year, Currys and John Lewis opened their sales on 30 October, with Argos following a day later.
The practical upshot: the Friday itself is the peak, but waiting for it is no longer necessary — or always wise.
When Do Black Friday 2026 Sales Start?
As of 27 October 2026, no major UK retailer has announced a full sale start date — that is normal, as announcements typically land in the first half of November. Amazon's opening dates in recent years were announced on 2, 8 and 13 November, with the sale itself opening around 19–20 November. Currys is the first big name with a confirmed position: its own Black Friday page confirms the main event for 27 November with early deal drops from early November — and it runs a Price Promise, refunding the difference if an eligible item bought in the run-up is cut further on Black Friday.
The patterns worth planning around:
- Marketplaces first. AliExpress discount codes and Temu discount codes anchor Singles' Day on 11 November, and both run through to Cyber Monday.
- Loyalty early access. Predictions for 2026 expect the big sports-fashion names to open member-only sales from around 17 November — MoneySavingExpert's forecast, for example, has Adidas opening up to 50% off for free adiClub members mid-month before widening and deepening to 60% on Black Friday itself.
- Black Week from 23 November. This is when most full sales go live for everyone.
- The close. Most deals end at midnight on Cyber Monday, 30 November — though some retailers stretch into the first days of December.
Our UK seasonal sale calendar 2026 tracks every confirmed date as it lands.
Is Black Friday Actually Cheaper? How to Spot Fake Discounts
The honest answer: sometimes. Consumer group Which? has repeatedly found that a large share of Black Friday "deals" were available at the same price or cheaper at other points in the year, because retailers often advertise discounts against an old Recommended Retail Price that nobody has paid for months.
Four checks separate the real bargains from the marketing:
Track the price history. Before buying anything, check what it actually cost before the sale. CamelCamelCamel tracks Amazon UK prices over time, and PriceSpy covers multiple retailers. If the "60% off" price matches the item's price last March, it isn't a deal — it's a rerun.
Compare across retailers. Google Shopping and price-comparison sites show the same product across stores in seconds. A "Black Friday exclusive" that's cheaper at a competitor every day of the year is the oldest trick in the book.
Be wary of one-off item sales. Deep discounts on a single product are designed for impulse buying. Across-store discounts on wide ranges — 20% off everything, say — are more likely to cover something you actually planned to buy.
Apply the need test. It isn't a saving if you weren't going to buy it anyway. A £300 gadget you never wanted "reduced" to £180 is still £180 spent, not £120 saved. Set a budget before Black Week, write the list, and buy the list.
Do Voucher Codes Work on Black Friday?
This is the question deal sites rarely answer honestly, so here it is: mostly, no — during the sale itself. Most retailers run one-discount-per-order rules while their Black Friday sale is live, so a 10% code won't stack on top of a 40% sale price. If a code box rejects during Black Week, that's usually why.
But codes matter enormously in the windows around the sale, and that's where a site like ours earns its keep:
- The pre-window (early to mid-November). Before full sales open, voucher codes are often the ONLY discount available — and a 15% code on a full-price item can beat the "early access" price the same retailer is advertising.
- Non-participating retailers. Not every store runs a Black Friday sale. For those, November codes work exactly as normal — and their December offers are worth checking before you assume Black Friday is the floor.
- The stack check. Our store pages carry live, dated offers through the whole period — for example, Furniture In Fashion's tier codes run alongside its autumn sale (up to 70% off, ending 30 November), so large baskets can compare the sale price against the code price and take the lower one.

What to Buy on Black Friday 2026: Category by Category
Tech and electronics. The classic Black Friday category — TVs, laptops, headphones and smart-home gear see the year's deepest cuts. For portable power, our EcoFlow discount codes page and our guide to saving money on portable power stations cover the products that rarely drop outside November; Beelink discount codes and Samsung discount codes cover mini PCs and home tech. Home appliances are Black Friday's deepest category of all — SharkNinja discount codes already carry code NINJA20 for 20% off sitewide (listed to 30 October) with the sale at up to 35% off, and Dyson discount codes currently take up to £200 off robot vacuums and £150 off cordless models. Browse every offer in our Electronics category.
Fashion. The sports giants go deepest — expect the big names at up to half price by Black Friday itself. Compare Nike discount codes, Adidas discount codes, ASOS discount codes, BoohooMan discount codes and JD Sports discount codes. The sales are already deep: ASOS runs to 80% off with 15% off first orders, and EMP discount codes take 20% off almost everything for band, gaming and alternative merch. Or browse the full Fashion & Trends category.
Home and furniture. Furniture is the quiet Black Friday winner, because the November event overlaps the autumn clearance season — the current autumn sale at Furniture In Fashion runs to 30 November with up to 70% off, tier codes alongside. Argos discount codes and Dunelm discount codes cover the household staples — Dunelm's clearance already runs at up to 75% off. See the Home & Furnishings category for everything else.
Beauty. Gift sets and electricals (hair tools, IPL devices) are November's best beauty buys. Compare Lookfantastic discount codes, Charlotte Tilbury discount codes — its beauty sale already runs to 50% off — and Sephora discount codes, with the gifts-and-sets collection 40% off, or browse Health & Beauty.
Toys and kids. Buying before December matters here — popular lines sell through and prices don't always improve closer to Christmas. LEGO discount codes and Smyths Toys discount codes are the anchors — at Smyths, Barbie lines are already up to 50% off and LEGO 30% off; see Toys, Kids & Gear for the rest.
E-bikes and e-scooters. November is the last big window before spring pricing. Our DYU discount codes, Hitway voucher codes and Eco Ride Zone discount codes pages carry dated offers through the season, and our e-bike vs electric scooter commuter guide helps you pick the machine first.
Black Friday vs Cyber Monday: What's the Difference?
Black Friday is the original: in-store and online, everything from sofas to socks. Cyber Monday was invented in the 2000s as the online-only follow-up, when home broadband made Monday-at-work the biggest online shopping day. Today the distinction has mostly dissolved — most UK retailers run one continuous sale from Black Week through Cyber Monday — but two patterns hold: Cyber Monday skews towards tech and online-exclusive lines, and it's the last day of most sales, making it both a final chance and a clearance moment for whatever didn't sell on the Friday.
The practical rule: buy the things that sell out early (popular sizes, hot toys, specific TV models) on Black Friday itself; take a final Cyber Monday pass for tech leftovers and anything still on your list.
Your Rights When Shopping the Sales
You can return Black Friday purchases bought online. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, online purchases in the UK carry a 14-day right to cancel from the day you receive the item — and it applies to sale items exactly as it does to full-price ones. The exceptions are the usual ones: personalised or made-to-measure goods, perishables and sealed items unsealed. Return postage rules vary by retailer, so check before ordering anything heavy.
Check for extended Christmas returns. Many retailers voluntarily extend their returns window for November and December purchases into January — useful when you're buying gifts early. It's a goodwill policy, not a legal right, so check each store's policy.
Pay by credit card for big purchases. Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act makes the card provider jointly liable for purchases between £100 and £30,000 — so if the retailer collapses before your sofa ships, the card company owes you the money. For a £2,000 Black Friday furniture order, that protection is worth having.
The VouchersX Black Friday Checklist
- Write the list and the budget before Black Week — the need test only works if it's done before the countdown timers start.
- Track prices in October. Note today's price on anything you plan to buy; screenshot it. That's your fake-discount detector.
- Watch early November for retailer announcements — marketplaces open 11 November, loyalty previews follow mid-month.
- Run the price-history check on every "deal" — CamelCamelCamel for Amazon, PriceSpy for the rest.
- Compare the code price against the sale price — during the pre-window, voucher codes often beat "early access" prices; during the sale, the sale usually wins.
- Buy the sell-out risks on Black Friday itself; take a Cyber Monday pass for the rest.
- Pay by credit card over £100 and check the returns window before confirming the order.
Black Friday 2026 FAQs
When is Black Friday 2026 in the UK?
Black Friday 2026 is Friday 27 November, with Cyber Monday on Monday 30 November. The wider sales period runs from early November — some retailers started in late October last year — through to Cyber Monday, with a few extending into December.
Is Black Friday a bank holiday in the UK?
No. Black Friday is a normal working day in the UK — shops trade standard hours and the online sales run on the same day as the US. Only the sales are imported, not the holiday.
When do Black Friday sales start in 2026?
No retailer has announced a full 2026 start date yet, which is normal — announcements typically land in the first half of November. Currys' own page confirms early deals from early November. Expect marketplace deals from 11 November, loyalty previews from mid-November, and full Black Week sales from Monday 23 November.
Are Black Friday deals actually cheaper?
Sometimes. Which? has repeatedly found many "deals" were the same price or cheaper earlier in the year, because discounts are often shown against old RRPs. Check an item's price history before buying — CamelCamelCamel for Amazon, PriceSpy for other retailers — and compare across stores.
Do voucher codes work on Black Friday?
Mostly not on top of sale prices — one discount per order is the standard rule while Black Friday sales are live. Codes matter most in the pre-window before full sales open, and at retailers not running a sale at all. Compare the code price and the sale price, and take the lower one.
Black Friday or Cyber Monday — which is better?
Black Friday has the broader and deeper discounts and the stock to match. Cyber Monday skews to online-only tech deals and acts as the final clearance day. The safe strategy: buy sell-out risks on the Friday, sweep the leftovers on the Monday.
Can I return Black Friday purchases?
Yes — online purchases carry a 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations, and it applies to sale items. Many retailers also extend returns into January for Christmas-gift purchases; check each store's policy, as that part is voluntary.
What should I buy on Black Friday?
Tech and TVs, fashion from the big sports brands, beauty gift sets, toys before December sell-outs, and furniture — the November event overlaps the autumn clearance season, so sofas and bedroom furniture clear at some of the year's best prices.
